Michael LoCicero First release on Gavin's new label LONG STORY RECORDING COMPANY. What a fine release to christen a new label with. I refuse to believe that I haven't already had any HESSIEN pieces in my collection. Here again is an album I have no favorite track for. The whole thing is above excellent.

thomas mathie What sets this album apart is their exemplary use of melodic repetition to juxtapose the wide, sprawling layers of ambient sound. These sparse melodies, played on guitar, give the listener something to hold on to, something to focus on, something they’ll remember and even whistle later in the day ... Hessien escape the confines of their drones to create something more, something rather special indeed.

Dusky electro-acoustic minimalists Hessien christen the roster in their first album release since 2010’s ‘Home Is Where The Ghost Is’. The diverse collection of tracks find the duo of Tim Martin (Maps and Diagrams, Black Elk, Atlantis) and Charles Sage (y0t0, The Rothko Chapel) pushing their trademark sound even further out, incorporating wall-of-sound dalliances in electronic textures, repeated motifs and cavernous off-kilter rhythms. Completists will be also happy to note that some rare compilation and unreleased tracks have been included in a single cohesive dialogue for the first time. Mastered with cerebral force by Mark Kuykendall, the album showcases every facet of Hessien’s distinctive sound with heft and depth.
